AFTER THE SUNSET

“After the Sunset” is a studio palette knife painting completed from a plein air study done at Shipwreck Beach on Kauai.  I was standing about 25 feet from a monk seal sleeping under a palm tree, trying to find a location that would both protect me from a quick shower and keep the sun out of my eyes when it began to set (a palm tree trunk).  The ocean becomes an amazing color just after the sun goes down.  It continues to hold the sunset colors while the world goes into shadow.   Without trying to paint that sunset en plein air it would have been impossible to duplicate nature’s amazing palette!

AFTER THE SUNSET will be on display at The Illume Gallery in St George, Utah as part of the American Impressionist Society National Exhibition from October 22-November 21, 2020.
